Cosplay Tour SM Cubao Aftermath (Nov29)

Yet again, another leg of the tour has just ended. 2 more to go (Dec12 &19)! Just like last time, it was a blast. We had more coplayers this time. A total of 82 cosplayers joined the competition. It was pretty hard to judge this batch because there were really a lot of great costumes and all of them put up a great show!

After all the cosplayers did their thing on stage, the team tallied up the scoring sheets and called for the 10 finalists. Then our dilemma began. It was so hard to pick out the best because everyone had really great costumes. We had to have only 2 winners in the end, but then again, all of these guys were considered winners so congratulations again to the 10 finalists!

Eventually, the final scores came. Props to the team for working really fast. Didn't even notice that they did the tallying. Haha! Congratz to:

Other than having outstanding creations, these two guys had really great performances. What we really liked about them is how they were in character all through-out the whole competition. How well they gave emotion to the character through their voice, actions/performance and confidence. Just perfect to complete their wonderful costumes!

Voice - I find this very important because it defines the character. The tone. The manner of speaking. Choice of words. It's like watching a character from an anime series or videogame and having a great voice actor complete the role. Think of Balthier and Fran of FFX12. Without their voice, they won't be as hot as a couple.

Actions/Performance - Another thing we must consider is how the characters move. If s/he moves gracefully or moves rapidly, robotic, snake-ish, etc. The poses, type of personality (happy/gloomy), the facial expressions and the gestures would be another thing that would help define the character. This can be honed through practice. Like if your character does flying kicks or splits, please don't practice just a day before. This can be dangerous. Practice can also help you be more confident when you are already on stage.

Confidence - Since a cosplayer would be a certain character for a day, it would be great to be confident with the role s/he has chosen. I know we have our shy moments but cosplay events are not the time to be shy. Just kidding! If ever you do a boo-boo on stage, make it part of your skit. Don't show the audience that something wrong happened. It's hard but we gotta try... to be faithful to our role for a day~ Just see it as playing and having fun!  

These are not really written rules. But just a few personal things I'd like to share to fellow cosplayers because I was a performer (singer/cheerdancer/ballerina/musician) before I got into cosplaying. And just like the arts, I think these little things can be helpful to cosplayers during events and competitions to somehow see cosplaying as a performing art as well. ^_^

Long time friend Faus Ontengco. Faus and Die DiAnkh is the 1st two people Ashley orangeish and I met in person from Anime Club 2003 (where our cosplay hobby started). We have been really great friends ever since!^w^


Die! DiAnkh where are you? We miss you already! :c

Jetfire looks a lot better in person especially that he had rotating led lights incorporated in his costume! I was trying to figure out how he did it. I failed. Must ask him for advice one day~
