Holiday Contest Winners</strong>
Thank you to everyone who joined my mini-contest over the holiday season. It was really enriching to listen to your stories and experiences. I also found it touching that a lot of you guys participated in this event. ^_^ There are a lot of great entries which is why we had a bit of difficulty deciding who the winners were.
As mentioned in my previous journal, we would only have 4 winners. But with the help of other people close to me, we picked the top 5. Yup, five, because we felt that all these guys really deserved to be featured.
This christmas is my first as a mom. But I didn't get to celebrate it with my daughter nor my husband. I was asked to watch/take/visit my grandmother in nyc for the holidays while her boyfriend (yes, my grandma has a boyfriend O.O) went to visit his family in Ohio. So, I'm in NYC with only my grandmother and no friends, no daughter, and no hubby. Last January, my hubby was deployed to Iraq and then shortly afterwards I had my daughter (she isn't his, but he loves her and claims her) and have spent every chance i get online when my husband is going to be on. My husband and i are engaged/handfasted (for those who don't know, its a pagan tradition of marriage) and Christmas Eve is our one year anniversary. Well, he called me and told me to expect a delivery on christmas eve and before 5pm i get a buzz on the door downstairs in the apartment and there is a huge box from FTD in a UPS guys hand. Poor UPS guy was confused because he didn't see my name but the apartment number was right (i'm staying with my grandma, so i don't actually live here). But, i get my box and go back upstairs and open it up. To my surprise is a beautiful bouquet of white roses and miniature pink with red stripes roses and a box of godiva chocolates along with a card. You can imagine that after getting the flowers out and in a vase and opening the chocolates, when i read the card i wanted to cry. He even wrote a poem to me. So, even though I'm away from my daughter and my hubby is overseas; I still got the best christmas ever. My daughter is walking (though i'm not there to watch it every day) and i got roses which i never really got before. So, yeah. Now, i'm gonna some more and look at my pretty flowers. Here's a [link] to see them.
2) ~Sielte This year, I proclaimed it the worst Christmas ever. I missed home and my friends so badly, It wasn't the same without familiarity.
No crowded shopping malls everything was closed; No Christmas TV shows just boring movies; No jolly carols to hear because everything was silent.
My father bought me an i-Pod, Only because I'd fought with my mom, She berated me more when I got it, I felt worse than before.
Although the music made me smile, I could not forget my loneliness, when I stepped outside my bedroom.
It didn't feel like Christmas, no, not at all There was no special dinner, food's too expensive here, I ate cold lasagna at 11 at night, then went to sleep trying not to cry.
I felt so bad, it wasn't meant to be this way, but I prayed anyway, and I went online, my friends were all there, waiting for me on MSN.
I counted down on Christmas eve with them I smiled and laughed for once I came onto dA and for some reason it felt like the best present I'd gotten all season was just being able to be a part of this place.
As I slowly wished everyone whose numerous journals kept popping up I felt myself start to brighten up and then I realized that this was where I'd found Christmas this year.
As I did my birthday, where the entire day had been so bleak up until I came online and saw all the greetings on Facebook, same goes for Christmas this year, I found the happiness and cheer I expected in the arms of the internet.
3) !soaki Hawaiian-themed dresses fluttered in the night breeze Us girls dancing with grace and ease And our male cousins fooling around in floral shirts Grinding their flip-flops down on the dirt
Playing games despite the cold night Dancing in a circle, lit by moonlight Money passed around as games are won But the night is barely done
Clinking glasses with friends young and old Passing the mic without being told Cheering, even if their singing hurts my ear They sound good enough because they're dear
Paper flowers, high and low Christmas music, loud and slow Laughter mingles with Christmas cheer On this cold night, one thing is clear
4) ~masquechique Two years ago, after sixteen years of not knowing why, I decided to ask my mom why she and dad split before I was born (don't make me tell you what the reason was, it's a very long story). She was very... miserable, but she had to tell me. Of course she must have known this moment will come. Afterwards I wanted to meet him, so I asked her if I could look for him (by now you might have guessed the ending of my story). With the help of my cousins and the internet, last December 15, I found him. It is a strange thing having to tell your dad that he's you know, your dad. Of course at first he thought it was a prank, but when I showed him my mom's picture (I even brought my birth certificate!), he believed me. He had another family; now I have two younger half-brothers. We spent this Christmas Holiday together in hopes of 'connecting'. It was very awkward and even now as I am writing this, I still don't think I love my dad yet. But at least, now I feel... complete
5) ~Kazefuri The season has been untrue, But I wouldnt argue. Christmas has been of gloom. Not in every room, but May have for somebodies, But not of everybody.
Season s mood is at swing, Yet it didnt loose a magic on a string. Yesterdays of twenty fifth, drizzles are on a riff. Come fifth and twenty, awaited by plenty, Rose a shine, of sun Not scorching, rather lovely, Along with the cool breeze of Yesterdays gently.
Congratz to these five winners! And to everyone who participated, thank you!!
Prizes would be done through draw lots. I shall send a Note to coordinate further about the prizes.
PS: This won't be the last mini-contest I'll be holding. I'll be doing a few more from time to time so just check back for new ones. Yay!
New Pet?!?!</strong>
My dad brought home something really weird the other day... At first we were thrilled to see it because he said it was an Iguana. And I've been wanting one for a pet since I was kid. He bought it off some guy on the way home. And so we went to check it out and found out that it looked peculiar.
I took a pic of it and researched about iguanas. He didn't look exactly like what a normal Iguana would look like.
...and we researched further and learned that he might be an Utila Iguana. Here is a photo of baby Utila Iguanas. Aren't they the cutest? *giggles*
Anyway, daddy gave him a name. "Iguanini"! Yeah, it sounds funny but it suits this little critter~ I love him to bits. Just a while ago, I checked up on Iguanini and found him lounging in his water/drinking bowl. It is his own personal bath tub now. Haha! So I took him with me and let him swim in our pool. He is a good swimmer. :3 Now I am confused if he is a reptile or an amphibian. O_o
I just wonder how big he'll get because as of now, he is 15 inches long. And yet, he is considered a baby iguana. I also hope that Iguanini and Kitty, my pet black cat, would get along fine.
Christmas Gift-giving</strong>
To answer those who've been asking me about how my Christmas break was -- Here is my share of one my most memorable experiences during the holiday season. ^_^ I joined a gift-giving event which is unusual during the break because as you all know... Christmas means being out-of-town and partayyyyy. Just kidding! Hosted by a good friend of mine, Ren Cayetano, this event took place at Joaquin Compound in Barangay Alabang, Muntinlupa City. :]
It was my first time to ride a trolley which was pushed manually along the rail road all the way to the venue!
Although, I did not do the giving personally, I wanted to be there to support and witness it. I offered to at least take photos so we can share our experience to our family and friends.
This event made me realize how it feels to be able to interact with the people there. Not that we didn't do things similar to this in school. It's just that this time was different because it was not a school requirement or anything. The people there seemed really happy. And it felt great to see the smiles on other peoples' faces.
I am looking forward to the next event similar to this. ^_^
